University of Minnesota School of Music - 100 Ferguson Hall (map)
Originally cancelled due to coronavirus pandemic, this course will now be presented online!
The Complete Flutist is a five-day intensive flute workshop at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Master classes, private lessons, orchestral repertoire, Alexander Technique, and more! Open to serious flutists ages 17 and above. For more information, visit https://cla.umn.edu/music/research-creative-work/community-programs/complete-flutist-2020
For this class, Immanuel Davis is joined by Christina Smith, principal flutist of the Atlanta Symphony and Catherine Ramirez, flutist and artist-in-residence at St. Olaf. Together, they will be conducting daily performance master classes and giving private lessons throughout the week.
In addition to the flute classes, there will be private Alexander Technique (AT) lessons and master classes in using AT for performance to help musicians reach their full potential as players: the technique can help people overcome stage-fright, improve breathing, increase awareness in activity, which allows for better ensemble playing, and help get rid of excess tension, which ultimately allows for freer playing and self-expression.
